What is staff turnover and why is more insight important?

Staff turnover — the departure of employees from an organization — is one of the biggest challenges for HR teams and directors. In the Netherlands, the average staff turnover in 2023 was 17.8% in business services and 21.3% in healthcare.This means that organizations in these sectors see one out of five employees leave each year.

High turnover rates not only cause constant recruitment pressure, but also financial and organisational damage. However, many companies mainly focus on employee satisfaction surveys, while they often do not directly link them to actual reasons for leaving.
